Prevention with Leptospiral Vaccine

Lepto vaccines help protect dogs against four main lepto serovars and provides a unique standard of protection against canine leptospirosis by incorporating the traditional leptospira serovars, icterohaemorrhagiae and canicola, with the newly emergent grippotyphosa and pomona strains.

In the 1970s, widespread vaccination may have decreased the incidence of icterohaemorrhagiae and canicola in dogs. Now, with the rise in cases caused by grippotyphosa and pomona, widespread vaccination against all four serovars is recommended.

Lepto has been diagnosed in all types of dogs. All breeds and sizes of dogs are at risk.
Dogs can get sick even if they never come into direct contact with infected animals.
Most dogs that venture outdoors are at risk for lepto.
